Write what you know, or so the old adage says. And Megan does…to a point.
Hello! I’m Chris, Megan’s husband and cohost of Page by Page: Writing the Book in Real Time, and I’ve taken over Megan’s substack for the time being. Mwahaha.
Being the spouse of an author of thirty-one fantasy and sci-fi novels across eight separate series, I can state with the utmost certainty that neither Megan nor I has injected a substance that would turn us into vampires, or fled a burning village with a man with stone in his blood. Nor have we leapt off a cliff in Maine to enter the Siren’s Realm.
We have, however, visited most of the places in her novels. That cliff in Maine? We climbed that mountain in the middle of the night to be among the first people in the United States to watch the sun rise that day. The woman who fled from the burning village with an elemental magic user escaped into a mountain range based on the Alaskan ranges, where we were lucky enough to spend four summers as professional actors.
The picture below is one we referenced in episode one of Page by Page: Writing the Book in Real Time.
This spring, Megan and I visited Portugal. Having visited ten different countries, I can say that Sintra, Portugal is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. From the palaces upon towering cliffsides to the mountain trails leading to the picturesque city center, I felt as though I’d stepped into a real life fairy tale.
