On the Disparity of Hybrids

The presence of hybrids has long been an acknowledged element within the aitherion community. While acceptance of hybrids varies greatly among regions and groups, hybrid births are common enough for parent races to effect the general bias toward the child.

The example of harpy and werewolf, a favored combination, chances the potential loss of a werewolf’s ability to shift but has been historically known produce fierce, loyal warriors.

Witch and banshee, while anecdotally considered a recipe for a mournful child, has, in fact, created six of the most revered witches since the time of the treaty.

Wives’ tales of telchine-satyr pairings producing offspring destined for trouble are well known, though insufficient examples have been found to support such beliefs.

Among combinations often considered lesser are dryad and banshee, thought to create a cursed child and with a startling amount of support for such beliefs, and satyr-werewolf, a pairing responsible for some of the most vicious mass murderers in aitherion history.

Below all pure aitherion hybrids falls the human-aitherion. In previous centuries, calls for their extermination came from both those seeing human-aitherions as an abomination to be destroyed and those seeking a merciful end for a child that had no hope of belonging in either world.

Currently, laws granting human-aitherion hybrids protection have been instated in most aitherion territories. Bolstered by several cases of human-aitherion success in the human world during the 20th century, violence against such hybrids has drastically decreased in the past three decades.

While the concept of utilizing human-aitherions to infiltrate and influence human governments must be mentioned when discussing human-aitherion cases, as of this time, no instance of intentional breeding for such purposes has been proved, despite extensive investigation by numerous sources.
