Cooperation between races has long been lauded as the best hope for the continued survival and secrecy of the aitherion community. This aim, though commonly held by the majority of aitherions, has historically been hindered by local flares of tension, which can quickly become violent or, in the worst cases, grow into wars between factions.
In the modern, more peaceful age, to avoid costly longterm fighting, negotiations between conflicting factions and petitioning for judgment from the territorial leadership have become prevailing solutions when conflicts occur. Direct, targeted retribution wrought specifically upon the offending individual(s) is another often-used tactic some argue preserves innocent lives by allowing quick resolution with no further bloodshed required.
The Gael Pack is a well-known case of a group rejecting both options. Coming under criticism on many occasions for their bloody and extensive forms of retribution, the pack is rumored to have eradicated bloodlines for the offenses of theft, breach of contract, and trespassing. The few documented cases of an offending party being allowed to live only serve to amplify the dark reputation the North American pack has built upon the corpses of those deemed foe.
A recent incident concerning the children of a Gael Pack werewolf and an Ely Coven witch serves as one example of mercy-driven fear. Upon discovering the Ely witch’s son had wronged his daughter, the Gael werewolf delivered the boy back to his mother with broken legs, declaring the boy’s continued survival a gift of gratitude for the Ely Coven’s hospitality.
The coven sought no known recourse for the boy’s injuries and is said to have gifted the merciful Gael with several valuable tokens of thanks.
Hmmm, and yet someone specifically targeted Gael pack members when they attacked Ella's family, and now again targeting Ella specifically.
Of course were only getting the story from Ella's perspective, so we don't actually know what is happening in the greater scope of the aitherion world- but this makes it seem like things would be turbulent right now.
And! It makes me laugh a bit that Ella specifies she got her mom's werewolf temper, when her dad is the on with the Gael pack connection. Phew! She must've really been firey!
