No BINGO for me today, but got a good number of squares marked off, hahaha.
Ella had a boyfriend when her parents died, oh man. (But also hadn't kissed anyone before? Wait now I have a whole new set of questions). There is so much to unpack in this chapter, and I missed so many details while trying to listen because kids, ugh (lol, but really) that I'll have to get from actually reading the chapter (like the reference to Auntie V being a vampire). I did catch the Jelly nickname alluding to Ella's real name. (Oh man, Ella's exboyfriend -does he even know her as Ella?)
Oh and yes, full agreement, Megan you are an incredible writer. Every compliment Chris gives you is 100% deserved. Your imagery, word choices, timing, delivery...its all amazing. And your world and character build is so rich that I feel like I could really know your characters or live in your worlds.
Seriously, with your TBI and your absolute genius with the craft even with the aphasia and everything... I struggle so much accepting and working through my new cognitive capabilities... you're my hero. Not in a like inspiration-porn ablest BS way, but in a true role modelling, I am not alone kind of way. The whole end of the podcast discussion kind of way. Your whole realness- the authenticity you share with us, I think thats why I feel like we could be/are friends- even if we haven't gotten to meet in person yet. Same for Chris. I love that you guys are exactly who you are.
And I absolutely adore your calling out people for attempting to depoliticize art and experience in general. We are a product of the world we inhabit and there is absolutely no way to separate that from your joys, traumas, your fears or aspirations, etc.
...Which, again, I thank you for being so open and vulnerable and sharing - through fictitious worlds in your books and your day to day experiences in the podcast and on reels.
Ugh, I'll move on and quit being so blatant about my love and appreciation for you now. I know you're uncomfortable (though its all true) and its better I don't get choked up writing this anymore than I am - soooooo, ~cough~ One day I'll buy you guys a beer.
Continuing.
Have fun at the Miami book festival! I have never said these words before, but I wish I was going to be in Miami. I'm excited to see what your plan is for the next chapter/podcast (a short Watcher chapter maybe?? 👀) Definitely remember to pace yourself and don't over do it, even if that means you have to push a chapter back a week. I think I can safely speak for all of us when I say we all would rather you be healthy than make yourself sick trying to do too much (as I'm sure you will). Just give us a quick podcast about your amazing time at the festival, and throw the chapter and podcast numbers off more 😉
