The difference in which Ella reacts to Caleb's and Jason's concern, ughhh- so frustrating. Ella being mad at Caleb and Violet being worried about her because she thinks they're underestimating her versus just being concerned for her as "something precious" to them too ... Its such a lens into how twisted her own sense self value i, and how hard that divide between being in-between both worlds is for her. It also makes me mad on Caleb's behalf, because being a half-fae, raised by humans, he probably has more in common with Ella and feeling isolated and unworthy. Actually, with his backstory from the podcast and his own admitted hatrid of his fae powers, Caleb and Ella make a really interesting parallel - Ella never feeling aitherion enough and Caleb never feeling human enough. I may be projecting a bit, but I believe Caleb's concern was as "innocent" as Jason's, and he knows just how much higher the stakes are, but Ella's own internalized fear and anger keeps her from being able to see that. Which is heartbreaking for the both of them.
I cannot wait for the next chapter. I wonder if this terrible, world-shattering revelation is going to make Jason even more determined to be an FBI agent- his motivation shifting from pride in his father to wanting to make damn sure he does better, is better, and doesn't let people down like Clara.
Finally, despite never actually watching the John Wick movies, or Eragon, I immediately knew all the references, lol.
Congratulations Chris! That's super cool!!
